Elementary and Middle School Math
I have been teaching math to 5th and 6th grade students for the last 3 years. I have even started teaching concepts from 7th grade to my 6th graders when we have finished the 6th grade curriculum. I believe that for students to truly understand math they need to actually interact with it. I use multi-sensory techniques in combination with more traditional teaching methods to help students more throughly understand math concepts.
Each time I work with your student, you can expect to hear how the tutoring session went at the end of that session. I will also have an activity or game to leave with you that will help your student get reinforcement of the concept(s) we worked on during that session. This allows you to help your student reinforce these skills so that during the next session we can move on to another concept or standard.
I specialize in hands on learning and my background in special education has given me years of experience to help break down difficult concepts into manageable "bite size" pieces for students.
I can help by filling in concept gaps that they have previously missed in their education, I can help them learn and reinforce new concepts they are learning in their schooling, and/or I can help find techniques and strategies to help your child be the best student they can be. I am flexible and here to help in any way that I can!
Science can be a lot to navigate. I have been teaching 5th through 6th grade science for 5 years and have also taught 7th through 8th grade science for 1 year. I use a multi-sensory approach to science (just like I do for math). I have noticed, while I have been teaching in the classroom, that the more I mix the different learning styles into my teaching the more my students understand and retain information and concepts.
Science is such an important subject and requires reading comprehension, writing, and math skills. I have broken many of these concepts down for my students, and I also believe in using positive reinforcement or token economies to help my students achieve success.
